If there is a question, it has to be resolved before the next point is fenced. It is appropriate to ask the referee for clarification prior to fencing again. If that can’t clear it up, the fencer (but not the coach or parent) can request that the head official come to the strip. Just don’t start fencing first.

What does one do when the referee looses count of the points, and gives the win to the wrong player? What recourse does a fencer have?

The article mentioned by Simome makes some very interesting points about societal issues and their effect from a feminist point of view. No doubt, societal expectations play a significant, if not dominant, role in differing development patterns.

For me, however, it is the answer, not the question, that is most important. In all cases, it appears that better, more advanced and comprehensive training techniques are the best way to avoid these problems. After all, the statistics are reasonably clear – a much higher injury rate, and significant traditional differences (be it nature, nurture or both) in training and techniques for female athletes.

Thus, if you are a female athlete or the parent of one, it is time to pay attention to these key training issues before the problems occur or get worse. The evidence clearly supports this without regard to ideological perspective.

Furthermore, I have seen plenty of fencers – female and male who are unable to hold their core in place above their knees.

I think it is important to slow down footwork and ancillary practices in order to focus on correct technique and form

The most important information that I’m looking for is the 2008-2009 section schedule. Looking through the calendar is a tedious way to do it – it would be much better to have it “Front and center” on the web page since that’s what most people will be looking for.

Also, I hope that the section can decide on a firm date for PCCs as soon as possible, because people need to make travel plans or decide on schedules.

Love the new website!! Question. When can you firm up the date for the PCC in April? I run a yearly tournament that is growing nicely and i hold it every April. It would be most unfortunate for me to publish a date only to find you guys choose the date that is on the same date or weekend before.Im looking to April 24th since im not getting alot of youth traveling to Chico. Could you let me know ASAP.? I appreciate your help.

Even though he’s officially Metro these days, James Williams (men’s saber replacement athlete) started out as a PCS fencer, fencing at the Sacramento Fencing Club from when he was 8 or 9 until he went off to Columbia.
